Substance Use & Dual Diagnosis Treatment

About Substance Use & Dual Diagnosis

At Serenity Health & Recovery, we understand that substance use and mental health are deeply connected. That’s why our treatment approach is built around addressing both—helping individuals heal from addiction while also managing co-occurring mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, or trauma.

Our outpatient and intensive outpatient programs (IOP) are designed to support individuals who are ready to take control of their recovery journey while maintaining their day-to-day responsibilities. We focus on real-life progress with personalized care plans that prioritize stability, growth, and long-term wellness.

Our addiction therapy services include:

  • Individual Therapy
Clients meet one-on-one with licensed clinicians to explore the root causes of substance use and mental health challenges in a safe and supportive space.

  • Group Counseling
Peer support groups led by experienced facilitators where clients can share, learn, and grow with others walking a similar path.

  • Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
A flexible yet structured treatment track offering multiple sessions per week for those needing a higher level of care without inpatient admission.

  • Medication Management
Access to psychiatric evaluations and medication support when clinically appropriate to help manage mental health symptoms alongside recovery.

  • Case Management & Recovery Support
We assist clients in navigating resources such as employment, housing, legal support, and more to promote stability outside of sessions.

  • Family Communication & Support
When appropriate, we help families better understand the recovery process and offer guidance for healthy communication and boundaries.

Although we do not provide detox services at Serenity Health & Recovery, we maintain strong relationships with trusted local providers and can coordinate referrals for clients who may need that step before beginning outpatient treatment with us.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dual diagnosis refers to the presence of both a substance use disorder and a mental health condition. This combination is common and requires integrated treatment that addresses both issues simultaneously. Treating just one without the other can lead to relapse or worsening symptoms.

Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) are medical conditions involving the misuse of alcohol, prescription medications, or illegal substances. Symptoms may include cravings, tolerance, withdrawal, and continued use despite negative consequences. These disorders can range in severity and are often linked to underlying mental health challenges like anxiety, trauma, or depression.

You may be dealing with a substance use disorder if drug or alcohol use is interfering with your ability to function, manage relationships, or meet responsibilities. Common signs include increased tolerance, withdrawal symptoms, using to cope with emotions, or failed attempts to stop. If these resonate with you, our team can offer a confidential assessment and support your next steps.

If your substance use is affecting your health, responsibilities, relationships, or ability to function, it may be time to seek help. Signs you might need support include:

  • Needing more of the substance to get the same effect

  • Experiencing withdrawal when not using

  • Inability to stop using even if you want to

  • Spending excessive time thinking about or using substances

  • Neglecting work, school, or family responsibilities

Serenity Health & Recovery offers confidential assessments and guidance to help you determine the best path forward.
